Kyiv police initiate case over denial of access to Lavra by Ministry of Culture commission

According to Interfax-Ukraine, the Kyiv police have launched a criminal investigation into the illegal detention of religious shrines following the Ministry of Culture Commission's denial of access to the territory of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra.

The capital's police headquarters reported that criminal proceedings were opened under Article 179 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which concerns illegal detention, desecration, or destruction of religious shrines after the commission was denied access to the Lavra at the request of the Ministry of Culture.
Previously, the Commission of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine for the Acceptance and Transfer of State Property of the Kyiv Cave Monastery had declared its intention to appeal to the police and file a lawsuit to remove obstacles to the use of the property after being denied access to the inspection.
