Leo XIV is the new Pope

The conclave elected Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost as the 267th Bishop of Rome, as announced by Cardinal Protodeacon Dominique Mamberty.

"Annuntio vobis gaudium magnum: habemus Papam!" (I announce to you a great joy: We have a Pope!), Just a few moments ago, from the central loggia of Saint Peter's Basilica, Cardinal Protodeacon Dominique Mamberti pronounced the formula "Habemus Papam," announcing to Rome and the world the name of the new Successor of St. Peter.

The election of the new pontiff occurred on the first full day of voting by 133 cardinals. The newly elected Pope has been named Leo XIV.

Robert Francis Prevost (born September 14, 1955, in Chicago, USA) is an American-Peruvian curial cardinal and an Augustinian. He served as the Superior General of the Augustinian Order from September 14, 2001, to September 4, 2013.
