The clergy of the Lviv-Sambir Eparchy of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC) led by Bishop Ioan (Shvets) announced that they are leaving UAOC to join the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate. The decision was made at an extraordinary eparchial meeting on March 23, 2013, in Sambir of Lviv Oblast.
“To recognize as necessary unification of UAOC and UOC-KP in one Ukrainian Orthodox Church. To recognize the status of affairs of UAOC as not conducive to the development of the autocephalous Orthodox Church in Ukraine and hindering its recognition by the Ecumenical Orthodoxy. To recognize further stay of Lviv-Sambir Eparchy in UAOC unadvisable and hindering the process of establishment in Ukraine of one Local Orthodox Church,” the website Pomisna.in.ua quoted the minutes of the meeting as saying.
The extraordinary assembly also passed a number of organizational decisions in this regard.
