Montenegro aspires to obtain Tomos on the Ukrainian model - diplomat
Montenegro is trying to obtain the Tomos of autocephaly for its Church, following the example of Ukraine.
This was stated live on Pryamyy (Direct) TV-channel by the diplomat, representative of Ukraine to the European Union (2010-2015) Konstantin Yeliseyev.
“January 5-6 marks the anniversary of the provision of Tomos to Ukraine. This not a decade's, but a millennium's crucial event. Everyone recognizes this. And our partners ask: why was there no reaction (of the government in place - ed.)? By the way, some other European countries are following our path. Montenegro is now trying to get independence for its Church, following our example. Since for every nation that respects and values itself, this is a significant event. There was no reaction to the anniversary of the Unification Council on December 15. February 3 is the anniversary of the Metropolitan's enthronement. I don't think there will be any reaction here either. Unfortunately, this is where defeats begin. And I would like to say that this is very important. It is necessary that our partners feel that we take care of ourselves: from the policy of sanctions against Russia to such attributes as the army, the Church, and the language,” the diplomat said.
On January 27, in Montenegro, a delegation of the UOC-MP took part in street protests against a law passed by the local Parliament that restricts the rights of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
