From December 28, 2024, to January 1, the capital of Estonia is hosting an ecumenical meeting of European youth, organized for the 47th year in a row by the community from Taizé, Burgundy, in eastern France. During a joint evening prayer on the evening of December 30, the brothers from Taizé thanked the churches, authorities and volunteers for the opportunity to hold the meeting in Estonia and announced the venue for the next one.

According to Vatican News, the next such meeting will be held in the French capital at the end of 2025.

The superior of the community, Brother Matthew, noted that the pilgrimage of trust the Taizé community has been conducting for many years is manifested not only at the European meeting, such as this one in Tallinn but also in the village of Taizé during weekly youth meetings. It is a way to support each other in the daily journey of faith, allowing Christ to renew our hope so that we can rise to the challenges we face wherever we are.

“We look forward to seeing you in Taizé during the summer meetings. Maybe some of you will spend a week with us before or after the Jubilee of Youth, which will be held in Rome next summer. And where will our next European meeting be held? It will be in a country with seven great mountain ranges. In a country that produces over 1,600 different types of cheese. In a country that has hosted the Winter Olympics three times. In a city built on a beautiful river, with a magnificently restored cathedral,” said the community's rector, asking the young man sitting next to him if he knew which city he was talking about. The latter answered without hesitation: Paris.

Archbishop Laurent Ulrich of Paris, who was present at the meeting, along with the young men and women who accompanied him, invited everyone to a meeting in the French capital:

“Come to Notre Dame Cathedral, come and knock on the door of Christ. He is also knocking on the door of your heart, waiting for you, as you are waiting for Him. I am glad that you will come to Paris next year. Yet, I am not the only one who is excited. I am surrounded by young people who are happy that you are coming, and I and my brothers, the Catholic bishops from the Paris region, from Ile-de-France, also rejoice. In France, as well as here in Estonia, there is the Council of Christian Churches and the President of the French Bishops' Conference, Catholic bishops, the Orthodox Metropolitan of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, the President of the Protestant Federation of France and the President of the United Protestant Church of France are waiting for you and invite you, as I do.”
