While celebrating the independence day of our country, we Christian Ukrainians, should reflect on our personal responsibility for the fate of our independent state. This belief was expressed by the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Patriarch Sviatoslav Shevchuk, on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of the independence of Ukraine.

While celebrating the independence day of our country, we Christian Ukrainians, should reflect on our personal responsibility for the fate of our independent state. This belief was expressed by the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC), Patriarch Sviatoslav Shevchuk, on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of the independence of Ukraine.

Patriarch Shevchuk said that none of us has the right to pass on to someone else the responsibility for the fate of the country. “If we together actively love our homeland and every day will live and work for it, then every day we will secure its independence and ensure that it takes its rightful place in the family of European nations,” said the head of the church.

He drew attention to the fact that today people often in a consumerist way of thinking say, what has Ukraine given me? “But Christians should ask themselves, what have I given Ukraine? What have I done for Ukraine to become better, stronger, more powerful,” says the Primate.

Patriarch Shevchuk recalls Shevchenko’s words: “Love your Ukraine, Love it in a time of trouble, In the last painful minute, Pray to God for it!”

“This appeal of our immortal poet today sounds quite special to the modern sons and daughters of Ukrainian lands. After all, to love Ukraine is a typical Christian virtue. This is not just about some feelings. It is a love that is active. To love is to be able to sacrifice,” says the head of the UGCC, the Information Department of the UGCC informs.
