On January 20, Pope Francis sent a message to Donald J. Trump, congratulating him on his inauguration as the 47th US President.

This was reported by Vatican News.

The Holy Father offered his cordial greetings to the newly elected leader, wishing that Almighty God grant him wisdom, strength, and protection in the exercise of his high duties.

Pope Francis writes:

“It is my hope that under your leadership, the American people will prosper and always strive to build a more just society where there is no room for hatred, discrimination or exclusion.”

"At the same time," the Pope noted, "as our human family faces numerous challenges, not to mention the scourge of war, I also ask God to guide your efforts in promoting peace and reconciliation among peoples."

At the end of the message, the Bishop of Rome wished an abundance of divine blessings upon Donald Trump, his family, and the 'beloved American people'.
