Pope Leo XIV and Lithuanian President discuss situation in Ukraine and peace efforts

On the morning of October 6, Pope Leo XIV held a private audience with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda at the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican. Following this meeting, the president also met with Cardinal Parolin, the Secretary of State, and Archbishop Gallagher, the Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations.

This was reported by Vatican News.

During the meeting at the Secretariat of State, the representatives from the Holy See and the Republic of Lithuania expressed their satisfaction with "good and fruitful relations between the Holy See and Lithuania," as stated in a communiqué from the Vatican Press Office.

They focused on several international issues, particularly the war in Ukraine. Emphasis was placed on the critical importance of finding diplomatic solutions to avert the risk of conflict escalation, which could have unpredictable and dire consequences.
