Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk Met with Ukrainian Community in U.S.A.
On Thursday, September 25, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk met with the Ukrainian community in the United States in New York, where the Head of Government stays on a working visit.
Both hierarchs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA – Metropolitan Antony and Bishop Daniel were among numerous guests of the Ukrainian Community Organizations, honoring the Prime Minister of Ukraine, as he traveled to the United States of America in order to address the opening of the 69th Regular Assembly of the United Nations on behalf of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. Greeting the Prime Minister Yatsenyuk, His Eminence Metropolitan Antony, speaking on behalf of the clergy and faithful of the UOC of the USA assured the Prime Minister in the daily prayers of Ukrainian Orthodox Christians for their ancestral homeland. Spending a few minutes with the Minister of Culture of Ukraine, Mr. Yevhen Nyshchuk, Bishop Daniel shared information about various projects of the UOC of the USA with Ukrainian orphanages and the most recent distribution of over $120,000.00 to the refuges and wounded soldiers of Ukraine.
"Ukraine is facing huge challenges, but on the other hand - opportunities as well," said the Prime Minister in his address to almost 1000 participants in a formal banquet in New York City’s Waldorf Astoria hotel. "… We are a part of the European family. It will be a difficult way, as people expect quick and qualitative changes and reforms," he said. "The obstacle on this way is the Russian aggression", said Arseniy Yatsenyuk, "It is aggression. And it is war, which was unleashed by Russia against Ukraine. Russia and its president have violated everything they could – starting from the UN Charter and ending with a number of international obligations".
The National Anthem of Ukraine contains the following lines - "Souls and bodies we'll lay down, all for our freedom". And we are paying for our independence an enormous price, but, actually, it is priceless - Ukrainians have lost their lives in a struggle against Russian aggression. We are paying for our freedom, liberty and the European choice. And we will gain the victory in this fight". The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the support demonstrated by the Ukrainian community in the United States. He stressed that the Ukrainian Government commends the support of the U.S. administration, personally U.S. President and Congress of the United States."We believe that we will succeed. We rely on your support, on the inexhaustible energy of the Ukrainian people - the energy to win, to succeed and to be the best country in the world," said Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
