KYIV — On April 15, 2010, the national prize “Pride of the Country” was presented to its laureates. The prize was instituted 8 years ago by the Viktor Pinchuk Foundation jointly with the New Channel and the newspaper “Facts.” It is awarded to ordinary people for extraordinary acts.

As reports the Ukrainian Truth, this year a priest of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate was awarded in the “Family history” nomination.

The Rev. Mykhailo Zhar, the superior of the Men’s Monastery of the Holy Ascension in Ukraine’s south-western Bukovyna region, is raising 250 children – only three are his own, the rest he adopted. They include disabled and AIDS-infected children. Today in his village of Banchany an entire children’s center has been built with the help of caring people.
