Moldova held significant parliamentary elections that will have a profound impact on the country's future. According to the Central Election Commission, President Maia Sandu's pro-European party won a majority and achieved a decisive victory.
According to BBC News Ukraine, with 100% of the votes counted, the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS), led by incumbent President Maia Sandu, has won 50.16% of the vote.
The Patriotic Bloc, chaired by former pro-Russian President Igor Dodon, received 24.19%. The Alternative Bloc garnered 7.97%, while the Democracy at Home party secured 6.21%. Our Party obtained 5.62% of the votes.
It should be noted that on August 20, 2025, Igor Dodon, the leader of the pro-Russian Socialist Party of Moldova and a former president of the country, was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir, First Class, by the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Onufriy (Berezovsky). Dodon announced this on his social media page.
Historian and religious scholar Dr. Serhii Shumylo describes Igor Dodon as a staunchly pro-Russian politician. He is also a well-known supporter of the Russian Orthodox Church and its metropolis in Ukraine, and he is considered a close ally of Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Before the election, Sandu mentioned in an interview with the Financial Times that Moscow had intensified its online disinformation campaign.
"The Russians are targeting the diaspora," she stated, accusing Moscow of employing Russian Orthodox priests to disseminate propaganda and using a network of "Matryoshka" bots to generate fake content that pretends to be legitimate foreign media outlets.
