At the Church of the Holy Trinity in Bern, nuns from the St. Elisabeth Convent in Minsk, who support Russia in its war against Ukraine, organized a candle, book, mug, and souvenir sale to raise money for orphans.
This was reported by Christian Vision, citing the Swiss publication Blick.
Parishioner and Eastern Europe expert Daniel Henzler observed the stand and raised the alarm. He wrote letters of protest to the parish, the parish newspaper, and the diocese, cautioning that donations could be misused for purposes entirely different from those intended.
In response, the rector, Mario Hübscher, clarified that permission had only been granted for one weekend and that the nuns would not be returning to avoid any associations that might "cause surprise."
As reported, the nuns of the St Elisabeth Convent, who travel around Europe selling church items to support the Russian army, have been expelled several times. In 2024, they were expelled from Ireland and Poland, and in 2025, from Italy and Norway.
