Oleksandr Danilchuk, the head of the Rivne Regional Council, sent a letter to Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin asking to contact the leadership of the Republic of Lithuania regarding the possibility of returning to the Rivne region an ancient book art – the Nobel Gospel.
The press service of the Rivne Regional Council communicated it to UA ZIK.
This artifact is considered to be the oldest written record of the Ukrainian Polissya, and, according to researchers, it is 41 years older than the well-known Peresopnytsia Gospel. The only restored copy is currently kept in the Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences in Vilnius.
The book was created in the village of Nobel (now Zarichnensky district) in 1520. Thus, in the next year of 2020, it will mark its 500th anniversary.
“Chairman of the regional council Oleksandr Danilchuk decided to contact Ukrainian diplomats with the initiative to return an old book to its homeland around the anniversary date or to give them a chance of making a copy of it. Oleksandr Danylchuk is convinced that returning to Ukraine of the Nobel Gospel or its copy will become a landmark event for the Ukrainian national and cultural revival,” the press service of the Rivne Regional Council notes.
