Roman Catholic Church in Russia is silent about the war because tomorrow it will not be there, - Bishop Stanislav Shyrokoradyuk

This is the most silent church. It doesn't want to risk its position. If they say what they really think, then tomorrow, there will be no Catholic Church in Russia. Therefore, they understand and pray for us, but they live in a totalitarian state where they cannot express their opinion.

Bishop Stanislav Shyrokoradyuk of the RCC Diocese of Odessa-Simferopol said it in an interview with Suspilne.

Regarding the attitude of the Russians themselves to the war in Ukraine, the Bishop said:

"I hoped they would wake up faster. But the faith has not faded — I still hope that common sense will still speak. Watch people and cities die, and don't think about who this spilled blood falls on. Christians know the science of the church that innocent spilled blood calls for revenge from heaven. Abel's Blood, God said, "Where is your brother, Abel?" And Cain said he didn't know. But the blood was calling to the Lord. How Pilate judged Jesus Christ and said, "I do not want to be guilty in the blood of this innocent man." And the crowd of people shouted: "His blood is on our children and on us." They brought it down on their heads. The Russians do the same when they support aggression. They say the same thing today: "Blood is on our children and on us." I think that Russians will think about who will be responsible for the spilled blood, for the dead and maimed children, for all the people who suffered. But this awakening is very slow. But it will happen. I don't lose hope."

The bishop of the Diocese of Odesa-Simferopol is confident that the war will end with the victory of Ukraine: "it can't be any other way. Why? There is a struggle between good and evil, darkness and light. The light always wins. As Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew said, this is a diabolical war. To have such hatred for people for no reason, to shed so much blood. This is something inhumane. People should be held accountable for their actions. God is on our side, and he is a just judge."
