Roman Catholic Reps Attend Inauguration of Viktor Yanukovych
KYIV – The Roman Pope was represented at the ceremony of the inauguration of Viktor Yanukovych on February 25, 2010, by the Apostolic Nuncio in Ukraine Archbishop Ivan Jurkovich. According to the Catholic Media Center, the Roman Catholic Church was represented at the ceremony by Metropolitan Mieczyslav Mokrzytski of Lviv.
Pope Benedict ХVІ sent Viktor Yanukovych a greeting address:
“At the moment when Your Honor assumes the post of the President of Ukraine I would like to pass my greetings to You and express a wish for success in the responsibility as the supreme guarantor of national unity, which has been vested on you and is important for the country’s life.
As I send You my warm wishes of successful service to the Ukrainian nation, which is very dear to me, I am calling God’s permanent support upon Your person for the sake of effective activity in the promotion of true civic and Christian values. I am pleased to add to these wishes the assurance of my prayer for the lavish Heavenly blessing to always come down on this country.”
