Roman Catholics in Dnipropetrovsk Receive Certificate of Right of Ownership of Church of St. Joseph
The senior priest of the Church of St. Joseph in Dnipropetrovsk, Fr. Zbignev Savchuk, on October 12 received from the Bureau of the Technical Inventory appropriate documents, the certificate of the right of ownership of the church, and the technical passport. Therefore, according to the representatives of the community, the struggle for the church, which lasted for 12 years, has been completed.
“The last battle for the church lasted for three years: it started in 2007 when the parishioners went out to the street in front of the church to protect it from being destroyed by the Dugsbery Corporation. In 2009, the court recognized the parish’s right of ownership of the church but the battle was not over as it turned out. The Dugsbery Corporation immediately began to obstruct registration of the right of ownership,” reports the parish’s press service.
The parishioners expressed gratitude to everyone who supported them and prayed together with them. “We are especially grateful to mass media which have been informing the society of the injustice faced by the Catholics in Dnipropetrovsk during all that time,” stresses the report.
On October 13, the process of gathering documents necessary for the restoration of the church, laying of service lines, and approval of technical documents will be started.
