Sheikh Tamim Says Wahhabism Won’t Develop In Ukraine

Sheikh Tamim assured that this Islamic trend “will not be allowed to develop.” He said that Ukraine’s ailing economy is the reason for the development of Wahhabism. According to the sheikh, poverty and social hardships provide “a good basis for extremes.” Sheikh Tamim also stated that over the last ten years, the Spiritual Administration of Ukrainian Muslims “has managed to prevent the further development of Wahhabism” in the country. He is convinced that Ukrainian Muslims “feel themselves to be full citizens of Ukraine” and maintain friendly relations with other religious organizations. “We are ready to develop relations for the sake of our common good, since we are living on the same land and building a united, strong and healthy society together,” said Sheikh Tamim. Today, Ukraine is home to more than 2 million Muslims.
