Ternopil City Council and Spiritual Council Object to Transfer of Objects of Cultural Heritage to Religious Organizations
On February 10, the Ternopil City Council held a regular session of the Spiritual Council, reported Religion in Ukraine.
Representatives of the traditional Christian Churches and the city council discussed a number of issues, on which the city council needed the advice and blessing of the Ternopil clergy. The Spiritual Council supported a draft address of the Ternopil City Council aimed to prevent the approval of the Law of Ukraine on Making Alterations to Certain Laws of Ukraine (regarding the transfer of objects of the cultural heritage to religious organizations).
The important issues covered during the session included the interdenominational dialogue and state registration of some nontraditional faiths that are not typical for the region. The Spiritual Council recommended to the local bodies of executive power to refrain from registering centers of the modern religious faiths and to promote the development and unification processes of the traditional Christian denominations, the Churches of the Kyivan tradition of Prince Volodymyr.
