The Knesset will consider a resolution recognizing Holodomor an act of genocide

If the Knesset would vote for the resolution, Israel will become the 25th country to recognize the Holodomor, which, according to Appellate court of Kyiv, killed 10 million 65 thousand people, genocide.

In the agenda of the Knesset on Tuesday, 15 November, introduced the discussion of the resolution on recognizing the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people. The draft resolution was proposed by Vice-speaker of the Knesset, the Deputy from party «Likud» Navoi Boker, Israel today informs.

Nava Boker, in the Preface to the document noted that «for many years the Knesset will not recognize the Holodomor an act of genocide by the Stalinist regime against the Ukrainian people» and, according to her, the time has come to correct a historical injustice.

The press service of the Likud noted that the discussion of the resolution in the Knesset promoted honorary Consul of Israel in Western region of Ukraine Oleg Vishnyakov. In order to enlist the support of Parliament, he insisted on the visit of the Israeli delegation in Kyiv Museum «memorial to victims of Holodomor» in the framework of the events associated with the 75th anniversary of the tragedy in Babi Yar.

«The fact that Israeli parliamentarians understand the need for the adoption of the resolution, makes our peoples closer. The Israelis are in the best position to understand the tragedy of the Ukrainians, subjected to systematic destruction initiated by the Stalinist regime,» — says Oleg Vishnyakov.
