In Uman, law enforcement officers are checking the information that a Hasidic pilgrim with COVID-19 who died in early April was illegally buried outside the cemetery in a ravine.

This is reported on Facebook by the press service of the Uman City Council, according to UKRINFORM.

"On April 10, 2020, the Head of the Department of Housing and communal services, Vitaly Kharchenko, filed a statement with law enforcement agencies regarding a video published on a social network on April 09, 2020, which alleges illegal burial in the city of Uman of a Hasidic pilgrim who died of coronavirus, " the message reads.

The City Council noted that the pre-trial investigation of this case is now continuing.

If this fact is confirmed, we can talk about signs of socially dangerous acts that may lead to a threat of deterioration of the epidemiological situation in the city. This is punishable, in particular, under Article 325 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of sanitary rules and norms for the prevention of infectious diseases and mass poisoning), article 44 paragraph 3 of the Code of Ukraine on administrative offenses (violation of rules regarding the quarantine for people).

At the same time, the City Council claims that the persons who carried out the burial of the deceased pilgrim did not apply to the funeral service of Uman (which is a special division of the Uman KP “Kommunalnyk"). Therefore, funeral services, including the allocation of a place for burial in the cemeteries of the city of Uman, registration of burial, issuance of a certificate of burial and other services provided were not provided.

In the video, which is mentioned in the note, a social network user demonstrates the alleged burial place located at some distance from the Jewish cemetery, in an unorganized place-Yara, which the author of the video calls "the old pumping station".

Later, another Uman resident posted a video of a site that is considered an illegal grave being filled with concrete and lined with concrete blocks.

In early April, a 47-year-old US citizen died from COVID-19 in Uman. He arrived in Ukraine with his wife and six children as a pilgrim from London on March 11. Later, a woman and two children were also confirmed to have a coronavirus infection.
