“The cracks have appeared at the beginning of construction, i.e. when the construction site was developed. I think they will appear again on the completion of construction. The floor with Greek marble, which is an integral part of the decoration, got cracked,” said Bukatyuk.

The Patriarchal Cathedral on Mykilsko-Slobidska street, near which the scandalous construction of residential complex is carried out, has gone cracked.

This news was posted on the municipal website.

On April 29, deputy head of Kyiv State Administration Pavlo Ryabikin examined the Cathedral’s condition.

"I share the concerns of representatives of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church related to the appearance of cracks on the floor and dome of the church, but in order to understand their causes, the relevant expertise shall be conducted,” the official believes.

He added that in any case the constructor must establish a dialogue with representatives of the Church and help restore the proper condition of the Patriarchal Cathedral.

In turn, Vasyl Bukatyuk, the officer responsible for the Cathedral’s technical condition, emphasizes in his commentary to Radio Svoboda that cracks began appearing in the church building with the start of the construction Sunny Riviera residential complex on the banks of the Dnieper.

“The cracks have appeared at the beginning of construction, i.e. when the construction site was developed. I think they will appear again on the completion of construction. The floor with Greek marble, which is an integral part of the decoration, got cracked,” said Bukatyuk.

Ryabikin promised that the city authorities would check the construction density near the cathedral, which also raises some issues, and said that mayor Vitaliy Klichko “started a systematic fight against illegal construction and the work is ongoing.”

"Kyiv Mayor addressed the Kyiv Prosecutor's Office to verify the legality of all permits for construction on Mykilsko-Slobidska street. We look forward to prompt consideration of an appeal,” concluded Ryabikin.

As you know, the scandalous construction of "Sunny Riviera" has continued for a year: ten floors have been completed in one of the towers.

Local residents have repeatedly organized protest actions in the construction site. On

February 4 people burnt tires.

On April 1 during the protest against new construction, a police officer sustained injuries.

On April 23, Klichko asked the prosecutor’s office to check the documents for the construction in Mykilska Slobidka, led by the leader of UDAR (the Blow) party Maxim Mykytas.

Later it turned out that the scandalous construction in Mykilska Slobidka is supported by Vadim Stolyar – a partner of First Deputy Kyiv Mayor Igor Nikonov.

Activists and local residents emphasize that the construction is carried out with violations. In particular, to legalize the construction in the restricted 100-meter area of the Dnieper, the conclusion by the Institute of General Plan of Kyiv was drawn up stating that this bank is not the bank of the greater river Dnieper but that of the “average river” Desenka and the buffer zone here comprises only 50 meters.
