UGCC Bishop: "Visit to war zone inspires to change the country for the better"

12.05.2016, 10:05

A person who visits the front line, gets a strong desire to do more locally in order to change our country, in order that reforms took place, so that soldiers found the country really renewed upon returning from the front.

Bishop Bohdan (Dziurakh), Secretary of the Synod of Bishops was reported as saying this in an interview on the results of the pastoral visit to the military zone in eastern Ukraine.

Sharing his experiences, the bishop said that he "was very impressed seeing calm determination with which our soldiers perform their duty." "They strongly believe in their right cause, they are willing to sacrifice. And they do it without poignancy, without publicity and looking back on others. They do not look back on others  who possibly escape mobilization by all means. Their determination cannot be stopped even by the turmoil on the political scene that we all observe. Yes, it is embarrassing, but it does not diminish their fervor to defend Ukraine. They say politicians will come and go, while we will have no other land of ours and it should be protected. And this their nobility of spirit cannot leave indifferent,” Bishop Bohdan said.

“One of the chaplains said, the Secretary of the Synod added, - “in the ATO zone there is a lot of guys that can paint icons, because they have transformed to such extent, they are pure and noble. I actually met these people and met many. And it is inspiring.” It was reported by the Information Department of the UGCC.
