On the Day of Holodomor, the head of the Conference of Roman Catholic Bishops of Ukraine, Archbishop Mieczysław Mokrzycki, called on the believers to remember in prayers the innocent victims of the catastrophe.
“Please, cover with prayer all those who appreciated a piece of bread more than gold and died a terrible death of hunger. At the same time, I am calling on you, each individual, to make efforts to ensure that people don't suffer from starvation nowadays. The ordinary Christian gesture, to feed the hungry and give drink to the thirsty is not beyond our capabilities; on the contrary, it allows one to see the image of God in one’s neighbor and to pave the way to the Kingdom of Heaven both to oneself and one’s brother in Christ,” quoted the website of Lviv Archdiocese of RCC the archbishop as saying.
The archbishop of the RCC also called the believers to do everything to ensure that such a tragedy never repeats itself. “We should not ignore the tragic lessons of history. Let us learn from other people’s mistakes and let us not allow a similar calamity to happen in order that our future and the future of the generations to come should be provided with daily bread,” said the head of the Conference of the Roman Catholic Bishops of Ukraine.
