Ukrainian Religious Organizations Get Unrestricted Access To Archives

06.11.2002, 15:35

The National Committee of Archives of Ukraine will not prevent religious organizations from accessing any archival materials with which they would like to get acquainted. This was announced by H. Ryzhkova, head of the department of the National Archival Fund at the National Committee of Archives, on 6 November 2002.

The restitution of church property, enforced by the presidential decree on fighting the negative consequences of totalitarian policy, is directly connected with the archival department, since during Soviet times church buildings expropriated by the authorities were often occupied by archives. According to Ryzhkova, nine archives occupy 14 former church buildings in regional centers of Ukraine today. Source: www.sedmica.orthodoxy.ru
