The Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) should express a clear position on Russian aggression against Ukraine and the facts of cooperation of the ROCrepresentatives with terrorists.
This was stressed by Professor of Religious Studies Olexandr Sagan during the round table at Ukrinformdedicated to ways of unification of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
“In this war, the UOC, which canonically belongs to the Moscow Patriarchate, raises most of the questions. Nothing prevents this Church to clearly express its attitude towards the aggression by Moscow’s troops and ‘ideological thinktank’. There is clear evidence of cooperation between the Church and separatists, the president of DNR received a church blessing, there are many facts that need a clear assessment of the Church. Where are the statements condemning that? The Church is silent. When it gives an answer, it will be a completely different situation,” said Sagan.
He added that the Church is called to improve the morale of society, but until now the UOC (MP) morale is questionable.
