New Orthodox (UOC-KP) Hierarchs Appointed

Archimandrite Serhii Horobtsov of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate (UOC-KP) was ordained bishop of Sloviansk by Patriarch Filaret (Denysenko) on 14 December 2002. On 15 December, the patriarch appointed a new metropolitan and three new archbishops.

Archimandrite Serhii was ordained bishop in compliance with the decree of 19 November 2002, according to which the Holy Synod of the UOC-KP elected Archimandrite Serhii bishop of Sloviansk and vicar of the Donetsk eparchy of the UOC-KP. Bishop Yurii (Yurchyk) is the bishop of the Donetsk eparchy. Archimandrite Serhii was among the first priests of the UOC-KP in the Donetsk region. He was an archpriest in the Telmaniv district of the Donetsk region, where he promoted the establishment of homes for the sick and lonely. On 15 December, Patriarch Filaret also appointed Archbishop Adrian of Dnipropetrovsk and Kryvii Rih as metropolitan. Bishops Iziaslav of Zhytomyr and Ovruch, Gregory of Zaporizhzhia and Melitopol, and Ioasaph of Ivano-Frankivsk and Halych were appointed archbishops. Source: www.uaorthodox.org
