Concert in Kyiv in Memory of US Victims of Terrorism
The Embassy of the United States of America in Ukraine organized a memorial concert on 15 October 2001 to honor the memory of the victims from more than 80 countries who died as a result of the terrorist attack of September 11. The concert, held in Kyiv’s Building of Organ and Chamber Music (St. Nicholas Church), was attended by His Holiness Filaret, Patriarch of Kyiv and All Rus-Ukraine (Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate), representatives of the Roman Catholic Church and other religious organizations.
The Honorable Carlos Pascual, US Ambassador to Ukraine, addressed the audience: “We honor the memory of those who died. Once again we emphasize our obligations regarding the fundamental values of liberty, human dignity and tolerance of diversity. Americans, Ukrainians and people of good will from all countries, we are together to defend everything good and just in our world.” The Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Choir under the direction of Roger McMurrin performed works of P. Chubynskyi, J. Bach, A. Copland, K. Stetsenko and M. Lysenko. The press service of the UOC-KP notes that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate did not send representatives.
