42% of Ukrainians Consider Religion and Faith National Tradition

According to the results of a poll conducted by Research&Branding Group, 42% of Ukrainians consider religion and faith to be a national tradition, religions.unian.net reported. 

In answer to a question what religion and faith means to them, 32% of the respondents answered that it means to follow moral norms, 24% consider it to be personal salvation, 17% consider it part of the world culture, 13% view it as an exercise of religious rites and 4% could not come up with an answer.

When asked about their attitude toward religion 51% of the respondents called themselves believing people but noted that they attend church only on holidays and do not perform all customs and rites, 27% believe in God but have little interest in church life, 12% are believers who regularly attend church and perform all rites.

Of the respondents, 4% are atheists, 8% never thought about it, and 1% could not come up with an answer.

The poll was conducted from February 10 to 20, 2012 and 1,600 people from the center and south east of the country were questioned. The average error is 2.2%.
