Archimandrite of the UOC-MP Lonhin (Chernukha) Tragically Killed in Car Accident
The editor in chief of the official print edition of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate’s “Tserkovna Pravoslavna Hazeta” (Church Orthodox Newspaper), Archimandrite Lonhin (Chernukha), was killed on August 7 in a car accident.
The tragedy occurred at about 3 p.m. on the highway Mykolayiv-Odesa.
According to police, the car driven by Archimandrite Lonhin swiftly slid off the road. The driver was killed instantaneously when the car hit a tree. There were no passengers in the car.
The wake will take place on August 9 in the Refectory Church of the Kyiv Cave Monastery. The funeral service will take place after the Divine Liturgy, at about 7:30 a.m., the official website of the UOC-MP informs.

Archimandrite Lonhin was born in 1972. He studied at Dubno Pedagogical College and the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in theology. From 1996 to 2001 he worked in for the “Tserkovna Hazeta” (Church Newspaper) and "Pravoslavnyi Visnyk” (Orthodox Herald). In 2001 he took his monastic vows at the Kyiv-Cave Monastery. In 2007 he became the editor of the official print edition of “Tserkovna Pravoslavna Hazeta.”
