Bishop Mykhailo Kvyatkovsky ordained in Winnipeg
This was reported by the Information Department of the UGCC.
During the Liturgy, Metropolitan Lawrence greeted all the faithful, especially the bishops who had come for the episcopal ordination of Bishop Mykhailo. He mentioned that Patriarch Sviatoslav, who has the canonical right to consecrate all bishops for the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, delegated him as the metropolitan to perform this ordination due to the Patriarch's busy schedule, primarily due to the war in Ukraine.
The newly ordained Bishop Mykhailo, in his gratitude speech in English, thanked everyone who accompanied him on his vocation and ministry journey: his parents, siblings, and entire family; Redemptorist fathers and seminary brothers from Manitoba, including Bishop Bryan Bayda, with whom he studied at Saint Vladimir's College, and the then-rector Bishop Peter Stasiuk; Basilian fathers and brothers from the Pontifical Ukrainian College of Saint Josaphat in Rome; Dominican fathers from Angelicum and Jesuit fathers from the Pontifical Oriental Institute; fellow priests from the Winnipeg Archeparchy; nun-monks from various congregations; and fellow bishops, including Metropolitan Maxim Hermaniuk, Archbishop Myroslav Marusyn, Metropolitan Lawrence Huculak, co-consecrators Metropolitan Borys Gudziak and Bishop David Motiuk, Metropolitan Stefan Soroka, Roman Catholic and Orthodox bishops present at the ordination, and all bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and the Episcopal Conference of Canada.
Bishop Mykhailo specifically mentioned Blessed Lubomyr Husar, who called him to serve in the Patriarchal Curia in Lviv, and all those who collaborated with him during that time, especially at the Ukrainian Catholic University.
He expressed special gratitude to two bishops, Pope Francis, who appointed him as the bishop of New Westminster, and Supreme Archbishop Major Sviatoslav, who, along with the Synod of Bishops, chose him and submitted his candidacy to Rome.
Bishop Mykhailo then called on those present to pray for Blessed Sviatoslav, the Church in Ukraine, and the suffering Ukrainian people.
He concluded his speech with an apology to anyone he may have offended and a request for prayers for him to be a good and holy bishop. He urged this not only for himself but for all bishops worldwide, emphasizing the need for greatness and holiness in the Church in these times.
The enthronement of Bishop Mykhailo Kvyatkovsky as the ruling bishop of the New Westminster Eparchy took place at the Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God Ukrainian Catholic Church in Vancouver.
