Cardinal Lubomyr (Husar) Celebrates His 80th Birthday
On February 26, Archbishop Emeritus of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Cardinal Lubomyr (Husar) celebrates his 80th birthday. He is called the moral authority of the nation.
Today, in St. Yur’s Cathedral in Lviv, a hierarchical liturgy on the occasion is to be celebrated by Patriarch Sviatoslav in concelebration with the bishops of UGCC.
According to the Information Department of UGCC, on February 28, in the Patriarchal Cathedral of UGCC in Kyiv, a thanksgiving prayer service and a meeting of the Archbishop Emeritus with the representatives of the youth communities of UGCC are to be held.
Journalists of ZIK TV channel conducted a poll among clergymen, historians and experts on the significance of the activity of Cardinal Lubomyr.
In particular, Bishop Borys Gudziak of UGCC said that he met with Fr. Lubomyr 45 years ago and that the man enjoyed special popularity and the respect of young people, Plast scouting organizations members, and intellectuals already then as a priest in USA.
“He is an embodiment of the faith which he preaches. He loves people and his word is very just and wise. People feel that,” said a writer, Yevhen Sverstiuk in his comment about the Archbishop Emeritus.
