Cardinal Sepe, envoy of the Pope, arrives in Ukraine

Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, the Papal legate, has arrived in Ukraine to lead celebrations commemorating the 650th anniversary of the Metropolia of Halych and to demonstrate the Holy Father's closeness to Catholics in Ukraine.

According to the Catholic magazine CREDO, Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe arrived in Lviv on the evening of September 4. The Pope appointed him to represent the Apostolic See during the celebration of the 650th anniversary of the Metropolia of Halych.

The cardinal was welcomed by Archbishop Mieczysław Mokrzycki, along with the clergy of the Archdiocese of Lviv and local authorities. In keeping with Ukrainian tradition, he was greeted with bread and salt.

During his time in Ukraine, Cardinal Sepe will preside over the main celebrations on September 6 at the Metropolitan Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Lviv. He is also scheduled to meet with government officials, visit young people gathered in Briukhovychi for the Archdiocesan Youth Days, and participate in several other events.

The papal legate plans to stay in Ukraine for several days. His visit aims to demonstrate solidarity and support, not only for the faithful celebrating the anniversary of the metropolia but also for the entire Ukrainian people enduring the trials of war.
