The priests were interrupted by the sound of explosions as the congregation approached to receive Holy Communion.

During a live broadcast from the Archcathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, part of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, the sounds of explosions in Ternopil were captured.

The cathedral commented on the emergency situation as follows:

"On May 1, when the explosions began during the Liturgy, which had started before the air raid siren sounded, the priest warned of the danger three times, advising people to move to a safe location — the cathedral's crypts, which serve as shelters. This warning was given immediately after the explosions began, again after the Gospel was read, and once more at the conclusion of the service. Everyone who wished to seek safety went to the shelter.

After the service concluded, the clergy stayed behind with the faithful to continue ensuring their safety and providing support.

Even before the air raid alert ended, individuals were arriving at the church to pray and take refuge in the church's shelters.

This event serves as another testament to the resilience of life in times of war. While Ukraine faces attacks, the Church remains a sanctuary for both body and soul. In moments of danger, the church continues to be a place of prayer, support, and hope."
