Change of leadership in London Diocese of UGCC

On September 1, 2019, the Holy Father accepted the resignation of Bishop Hlib (Lonchyna) from the administration of the ruling bishop of the Diocese of London of the Holy Family of the UGCC and the Apostolic Visitator for Ukrainians of the Byzantine rite in Ireland. At the same time, according to Vatican Radio, the Pope appointed Fr Mykola Matviyivsky, the Chancellor of the diocese, to the office of the Apostolic administrator of the diocese.

At the same time, according to Vatican Radio, the Pope appointed Fr Mykola Matviyivsky, the Chancellor of the diocese, to the office of the Apostolic administrator of the diocese.

Bishop Hlib Lonchyna was the first ruling Bishop of the Ukrainian Diocese of London which in January 18, 2013 was set by Pope Benedict XVI, who elevated the then-Apostolic Exarchate for Ukrainians of the Byzantine rite residing in the UK to the rank of the diocese. In January this year, Pope Francis appointed Bishop Hlib to the office of the Apostolic Administrator of the vacant residence of the Eparchy of St. Volodymyr in Paris, after its Eparch Bishop Borys (Gudziak) was appointed Metropolitan of Philadelphia in the United States.
