Committee of Ukrainian Orthodox Church Bring Its Statutes in Line with Statutes of Russian Church
The main task of the Committee on Preparation of Alterations and Addenda to the Statutes of Government of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is to bring its Statutes in line with the law in force and the Statutes of the Russian Orthodox Church and the latest decisions of the hierarchical and local councils, Metropolitan Ilarion of Donetsk and Mariupol said with respect to the results of the first session of the committee.
In answer to the question about the tasks set for the Committee on Preparation of Alterations and Addenda to the Statutes of Government of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (wording of 2007), its head, Metropolitan Ilarion, said: “The last Hierarchical Council showed that the hierarchs, clergymen and faithful of our church have questions regarding the current Statutes by which we lived from 2007. This is connected with the changes in the state in general and in the church. Therefore, there are certain discrepancies and inaccurate definitions in various questions. This requires diligent canonical and legal work.” “The main task of the committee is to bring our Statutes in line with the law in force and the Statutes of the Russian Orthodox Church and the latest decisions of the hierarchical and local councils,” he said.
He added that “the committee should study these questions, consider them and submit it to the consideration of the Holy Synod, and the Synod should submit to the consideration of the Council of Bishops the question of making alterations to the current Statutes,” web site of the UOC-MP reported.
