On Wednesday, December 18, the Czech Senate recognized the mass deportation of Crimean Tatars as an act of genocide.

This was announced by the head of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE, Mariia Mezentseva, reports Yevropeiska Pravda.

Mezentseva said that the Czech Senate unanimously recognized the mass deportation of Crimean Tatars as an act of genocide.

According to the Senate's website, 76 senators were present, 70 of them voted in favour of the decision, four abstained, and no one voted against it.

“The floor is given to Mustafa Dzhemilev. The Senate gives a standing ovation,” Mezentseva added.

In 2022, the House of Commons of Canada unanimously recognized the mass deportation of Crimean Tatars as an act of genocide. Prior to this, the deportation of Crimean Tatars was recognized as genocide in Ukraine, Latvia and Lithuania.
