Festival of Spiritual Music Launched in Ivano-Frankivsk
A festival of spiritual music From Christmas to Easter began on January 15 in Ivano-Frankivsk. Representatives of the Ivano-Frankivsk City Executive Committee told UNIAN that the festival is held in the building of the regional art museum, which was originally a church built by the founder of the city, Count Potocki. The organizers state that the atmosphere and acoustics of the former Polish Catholic church suit spiritual singing perfectly.
Choirs and groups of musicians will perform here each Sunday until Easter. Thirty spiritual and secular groups have been invited.
According to the head of the Department of Culture of Ivano-Frankivsk City Executive Committee, Myroslav Petryk, the festival is notable for the fact that it is dedicated to the 120th anniversary of birth of Patriarch Josyf Slipyj of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.
From January 15 to April 17, 2012, each Sunday and on religious holidays, visitors will have opportunities to listen to the best examples of local church singing.
