First session of OCU Synod to be held after his enthronement, Metropolitan Epifaniy says
The head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Metroplitan Epifaniy (Dumenko), said that after the official enthronement scheduled for February 3, the Holy Synod will hold its first meeting.
The first hierarch said this in an interview with Pryamy TV Channel.
“The enthronement will be held in early February. It will be announced officially. So far, this announcement as such is not official. We will announce it officially. And, accordingly, after the official enthronement, the first meeting of the Holy Synod will be held,” he said.
The OCU leader has noted that according to the new charter which was adopted at the Unification Council on December 15 in St Sofia, Kyiv, there are three permanent members of the Holy Synod – these are former Primates of the Churches that united; Honorable Patriarch Filaret, Metropolitan Makariy and Metropolitan Symeon.
“Other members, alternate members will be elected for the first year and, according to the decree of the Primate, will be appointed, as is clearly stated in the new charter of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine,” said Epifaniy.
As RISU previously reported, the enthronement of the Primate of the OCU, Metropolitan Epifaniy (Dumenko) is scheduled for February 3. It will take place in St Sofia of Kyiv. On this day, the Primate of the OCU turns 40.
