Head of UGCC calls on faithful to make donations to Andriyiv Hrish Fund to help victims of war
The Primate of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, His Beatitude Sviatoslav has appealed to all faithful and people of good will who wish to help those affected by the war in Ukraine, to make donations to the Andriyiv Hrish Fund which was instituted by His Beatitude Lubomyr of the blessed memory.
The Head of the UGCC, in a video address to the faithful, said, “My beloved predecessor, His Beatitude Lubomyr left us with such two pearls of his wisdom. He said: the patriarchy is being built and the patriarchate has its cost. And one of the instruments of building patriarchal structures, the patriarchal dignity of our local Church in Ukraine and the whole world that he handed over to me is called the Andriyiv Hrish Fund.
“Support this idea of His Beatitude Lubomyr. And the Lord God will bless you all hundredfold. And our Church will be crowned with patriarchal dignity,” called the Primate of the Church.
Every year, the faithful of the UGCC on the day of St. Andrew the First-Called will donate to the Andriyiv Hrish Fund which is intended to implement pastoral and social initiatives of the Church.
Fundraising is carried out both in Ukraine and abroad.
According to the UGCC Department of Information, the funds collected so far have been used to support the Church's entities in the mission areas. However, in September this year, the Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church decided, taking into account the challenges faced by Ukrainian society, the war in the East of Ukraine, the large number of prisoners, widows and orphans, wounded, displaced persons and other socially unprotected categories of our fellow citizens – to allocate the funds of the Andriyiv Hrish Fund to pastoral and social projects in Ukraine.
Patriarch Sviatoslav in the past few years repeatedly assisted the victims of military operations in the east – both through the persons involved and personally.
It should be emphasized that allocations occur at a collective decision of the Board of the Fund, which includes patriarch (its director) and four counselors.
The faithful of the UGCC can make their donations to the Andriyiv Hrish Fund in their parishes.
