Human rights activist reports video surveillance cameras in mosques across occupied Crimea

This information was shared on Facebook by Lutfiye Zudiyeva, a Crimean human rights activist and journalist, according to Ukrinform.

"Today, many mosques in Crimea have CCTV cameras installed. While these cameras are said to be for security and internal monitoring purposes, they can actually be used for unauthorized surveillance of the religious activities of believers," the human rights activist stated.

She emphasized that using or sharing such recordings without the consent of the individuals depicted usually violates Russian law.

“Any person who appears on video is considered a subject of personal data. Their image is also categorized as personal data. Such data can only be used or published with that person's consent, except in legally specified situations,” Zudiyeva explained.

Additionally, she noted that covert video surveillance in locations where religious ceremonies take place could be classified as an administrative or even criminal offense.
