In Germany, Ukrainians honor Blessed Edigna, granddaughter of Yaroslav the Wise
According to Ukrinform, this information is available on the website of the Apostolic Exarchate in Germany and Scandinavia.
A large group of pilgrims, led by Fr Volodymyr Viytovych, the administrator of the Cathedral of the Protection of the Holy Mother of God in Munich, embarked on a procession to the church in Puch. Along the way, the pilgrims prayed, listened to the Word of God, and sang church hymns.
Pilgrims from Bamberg, Stuttgart, Neu-Ulm, Augsburg, Freiburg, and Landshut also attended the Divine Liturgy held that day.
Following the prayer service, Ms. Edigna Kellerman, the head of the Society of Blessed Edigna in Puch, addressed the pilgrims from the Ukrainian communities, expressing her gratitude to those present for honoring and promoting the veneration of this blessed woman.
Blessed Edigna was the granddaughter of Yaroslav the Wise and the daughter of Anna Yaroslavna, Queen of France. She completed her ascetic journey in Bavaria.
She is recognized as a saint who unites three nations: French, German, and Ukrainian. Blessed Edigna serves as a reminder that Ukrainians have been part of the great family of Christian nations in Europe for over a thousand years, which Ukrainian defenders continue to protect against current threats.
The relics of the blessed are venerated in the city of Puch. Each year, pilgrimages are organized by the Apostolic Exarchate for Ukrainian Greek Catholics in Germany and Scandinavia.
Additionally, the Apostolic Exarchate in Germany has published a Gregorian calendar in Ukrainian and German for 2025, titled "Edigna – The Blessed One Who Unites Nations." This calendar provides information about the granddaughter of Kyiv Prince Yaroslav the Wise for each month of the year.
