Interfaith Religious Council set up in Khmelnytskyy

The religious council, which brings together representatives of 18 religious denominations, has been established in Khmelnytskyy. Metropolitan Anthony (Makhota) has been elected its chairman for one-year term.

The religious council, which brings together representatives of 18 religious denominations, has been established in Khmelnytskyy. Metropolitan Anthony (Makhota) has been elected its chairman for one-year term.


On August 15, Regional Council Chairman Mykhailo Zagorodniy together with Head of State Administration Oleksandr Korniychuk met with its representatives.


During the meeting, the statutory objectives and work conditions of this institution were outlined. Participants also discussed the action plan to celebrate the anniversary of independence of Ukraine.


Oleksandr Korniychuk said that ensuring social cohesion in difficult time for Ukraine is a big and important work for us all. “Religion and faith are the driving forces that support both an individual and population across the country and in the most difficult times for it,” said the regional leader.


In turn, Metropolitan Anthony noted that the creation of the Religious Council is a symbol of unification of spiritual thoughts of all faiths citizens of our region.


According to the website of Khmelnytskyy diocese of the UOC-KP, the newly created institution operates and makes decisions by consensus and complete agreement and is open to all religious denominations.
