John Damascene’s Exposition of the Orthodox Faith to be Translated by Kyivan Patriarchate
KYIV — The rector of the Kyivan Orthodox Theological Academy, Metropolitan Dymytrii of Pereiaslav-Khmelnytskyi and Boryspil of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate, initiated the translation of the “Exact Exposition of the Orthodox Faith” by St. John Damascene by postgraduate students of the academy. During a meeting with the postgraduate students on December 22, 2009, the bishop stressed the importance of the translation, reports the press-service of the Kyivan Orthodox Theological Academy.
“The old Kyivan spiritual academy before the revolution translated the Church Fathers and teachers, therefore, it is important for us today to make such translations into Ukrainian, for these works contain the very gist of the Christian Church’s teaching,” he said.
Last year the postgraduate students of the academy translated works of the Apostolic Fathers and Apologists into Ukrainian, which are to be published in the near future.
Patriarch Filaret, who himself works on translations, has blessed the project. As of today, according to the press service of the Kyivan Orthodox Theological Academy, the complete collection of works of St John Chrisostom is being published. Three volumes have already appeared.
