Kyiv Churches Call on Parishioners to Go to Maidan
In some churches in Kyiv, the priests are calling on the faithful to go to the Maidan to support the protesters. They themselves bring warm clothes and food to the demonstrators, and spend night shifts on the square with the people.
Such appeals are heard in several churches, protesters on the Maidan told RISU. They are heard in Orthodox churches, as well as in the Church of Sts. Boris and Hlib, which we visited on Sunday.
“We already have the first results, which is very important – an understanding that everyone is your neighbor, that we are all working for each other, there is no secret, because we all brothers and sisters. The Maidan has helped us to understand this truth,” Father Yuriy said after the Liturgy.
According to him, starting Monday other mechanisms will be at work for future gains; however, the government crossed the line when the children who were the first to protest were injured. And then the adults were mocked, says the priest.
“We have to determine the way forward, in particular in building civil society, creating a legal atmosphere for the people,” he said.
It should be added that the changes can already seen, because young men willingly stood behind barricades, and among them were girls with their braids covered by motorcycle, bicycle and construction helmets, standing in the ranks of defense.
Public sector workers and doctors have received instructions to sign a declaration to join the Party of Regions under duress, under threat of dismissal. According to the participants of the anti-Maidan (pro-government demonstrations), this has been happening in many regions.
