Kyiv City Council Prohibits Construction Within Buffer Zone of Sophia of Kyiv
KYIV – The Kyiv City Council passed a decision to prohibit construction of a residential housing complex in Kyiv at 17-23 Honchara St., which is within the buffer zone of the Sophia of Kyiv National Preserve. For the decision voted 82 of the 120 deputies, reports Ukrinform.
In particular, the draft resolution envisages that the company carrying out the construction (Investment Building Group) should stop all construction until the requirements of the current General Plan of development of Kyiv and regulations of development are met.
According to the head of the City Council’s Committee on Culture and Tourism, deputy Oleksandr Bryhynets, construction will be prohibited until the building documentation of the mentioned company is brought in line with the building regulations of the protected zone of Sophia of Kyiv. He also stressed that the construction threatens the status of the Sophia of Kyiv National Preserve as a cultural heritage of UNESCO.
