One of them is located on Zapovitna street near school 1. The first cemetery known from sources was located there. The evidence about it dates back to XVI century, but it is believed to have been there much earlier.

The sign features an inscription in Ukrainian and Yiddish, according to the Chronicles of Lubart.

“Here the Jewish cemetery of the holy community of Lutsk was located. Here many tsadiks are buried, including the holy Rabbi Wolff, holy Rabbi Gershon Lutsker, holy Rabbi Yitzchak Ayzik holy Rabbi Yehoshua Eshel and righteous and God-fearing Jews of the city. The holy Shlomo Lutsker called this place the ‘Lightsome House of Eternity’, the text of the memorial sign goes.

The second sign was mounted on the descent Teschin Yazyk. The Jewish cemetery had existed in the place from the mid-nineteenth century.

The signs were mounted on the initiative of Volyn progressive Judaism religious communities and organizations “Oaley Tsadikim - Hader Avot.” Its leader Rabbi Yisrael Meir Gabay visited Lutsk. He noted he was sorry to see houses on the site of the cemetery and gardens on the site of mass executions during the Second World War.

In recent years heard different statements were made about marking the old cemetery on the territory of Lutsk. It was also referred to the Austrian memorial near school 5, arrangement of the memorial with its multinational burials etc. So far, honoring Jewish cemeteries is the first event of this kind.
