On April 3 a report in the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita stated that the Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese in Lviv, Metropolitan Mieczyslaw Mokrzycki, was appointed Metropolitan of Wroclaw.

According to Metropolitan Mieczyslaw Mokrzycki, he does not know where these rumors came from, as there were no grounds for them.

“I laughed at the news that I was appointed Metropolitan of Wroclaw. It was a kind of fabrication. No one spoke to me about the transfer, neither the nuncio nor the pope,” said Bishop Mokrzycki.

According to Bishop Mokrzycki, Wroclaw has always been close to him, because many believers live there, and he has repeatedly visited this archdiocese.

“My diocese is Lviv. This is my city and I love it. I feel very comfortable here. Frankly, I never had the thought of leaving Lviv for some benefit or career advancement, as it was written. I want to serve in Ukraine. My service here is accepted and it gives me joy and satisfaction,” said Bishop Mieczyslaw Mokrzycki.

He also said that his collaboration with priests is positive and productive. He has been able to implement many social projects.

“The Priests feel confident. There have been many changes in the church. We cooperate with young people, whole families, helping those in need. I see that our church is going through spring, it is now happy. The Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine has a future,” said Metropolitan Mieczyslaw Mokrzycki.

Metropolitan Mokrzycki lived for many years in the Vatican and worked as the second secretary of two Holy Fathers – John Paul II and Benedict XVI. Mieczyslaw Mokrzycki became the Metropolitan of Lviv in 2008.
