Metropolitan Yuriy (Kalistchuk) Ratified as Head of Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Canada
The formal process of election and ratification by the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of the decision of the 22nd Council of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Canada of July 14, 2010, to elect Metropolitan Yuriy (Kalistchuk) the head the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Canada has been completed. The celebratory enthronement of Metropolitan Yurii was held on November 21 in the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
On November 20, a Great Vespers was celebrated.
According to the website Autocephaly, the head, bishops, monks, and laity of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC) extended greetings to Metropolitan Yurii and the clergy and flock of the UOC in Canada.
"As we send our prayers from ancient Kyiv, the cradle of Christianity in Rus, to the distant Canadian land, we firmly believe that the love and understanding, which have been active in the relations between our churches, will not only remain but will also multiply," reads the greeting address of the UAOC.
