NBU issues commemorative coin “Granting the Tomos of autocephaly to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine”
On March 25, the National Bank of Ukraine put into circulation a commemorative coin “Granting the Tomos of Autocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine”. In particular, gold, silver and silver bullion coins were issued. This is reported on the website of the NBU.
In particular, a serrated silver coin with a face value of 5 hryvnias, weight of 16.54 grams, diameter of 35 mm was released into circulation in the amount of of 75,000 pieces. Date of putting into circulation: March 25, 2019.
A small State Emblem of Ukraine is placed on the obverse of the coin in the middle of a stylized cross, formed by ornamental decorative frieze, on the mirrored background at the top, it has the inscription “Ukraine” below; imprints of the Seals of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine, between which the denomination of “5” is located, below there is aninscription “hryvnia", the year of issue of the coin – “2019” and the logo of the Banknote Printing and Minting Works of the National Bank of Ukraine.
On the reverse of the coin with the background of the domes of St. Sophia Cathedral there is a stylized fragment of the Tomos. On both sides of the central dome, the date of the provision of the Tomos is indicated; with a circle inscription: “Granting of the Tomos on autocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine”.
A silver coin of 20 UAH, weighing 62.2 grams, with a diameter of 50 mm. A circulation of 4,000 pieces was released.
The obverse of the coin contains: on top there is the Small State Emblem of Ukraine, under which is the inscription “Ukraine”; with the background of a stylized handwritten fragment of the Tomos –gilded imprints of the seals of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine, under which there is the year of coinage – “2019” and the face value – “20 hryvnias”; the circle inscription “I bless and declare the Orthodox Church in Ukraine autocephalous.”
On the reverse of the coin: in the center on a matted background, a cross is depicted, in the center of which there is the date of the issue of the Tomos. In the circle, there are inscriptions “Orthodox Church of Ukraine” and “The 15th in the blessed choir of autocephalous Churches".
A serrated gold coin in the denomination of 100 hryvnias, weighing 31.1 g, and having 32 mm in diameter, was put into circulation in the amount of 1,500 pieces.
The obverse of the coin contains an upper half-letter inscription “From the baptism to the Tomos, Millennial Path of the Ukrainian Church”; Below is the Small State Emblem of Ukraine and inscriptions "Ukraine", "100 hryvnias"; in the center, with the mirrored background of the contour of St. George's Cathedral in Istanbul, the dome of St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv is depicted. On the side of the central dome: the years of 988 and 2019 are indicated.
The reverse of the coin contains a mirror image of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who signed the Tomos; it has inscriptions “I bless and proclaim the Orthodox Church in Ukraine autocephalous” and “Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew”.
