October 10: Second day of the session of the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople
On the second day of the session of the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, the two patriarchal exarchs, Archbishop Daniel of Pamphilon and Bishop Hilarion of Edmonton, presented their reports following their meetings with the schismatic churches of Ukraine.
"Everything will be alright. With the help of God, I think so," Archbishop Daniel replied laconically to the question of the Ukrinform correspondent regarding the prospects of the present meeting of the Synod. Exarch Daniel gave his impression of his visit to the Ukraine to the reporters: "I was happy to meet with representatives of the Church and lay authorities of the Ukraine. My impressions of the trip are good," he said.
As for whether the people are ready for the unification of the Church, the exarch said that "the Ukraine has been ready to consider the question of the unification of the church for 27 years, if not more, for a century".
After hearing the reports of both exarchs in Kyiv, the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople postponed to October 11 the continuation of its discussion about the granting of the autocephalous tomos to the Ukrainian Church. According to unofficial information from Portal-credo.ru, the Holy Synod will just make a declaration of support for the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church and the final decision will be taken during their next meeting in November.
